Requirements for all jobs at Merry Puppins:

  • Valid driver’s license and registered/ insured reliable transportation. Please note: it is not possible to take public transit for this job.
  • Live in or near our service area, Pittsburgh’s East End, or be able to commute to this area.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Because we invest heavily in our team members, we are looking for people who can commit to this position for at least one year from time of hire.
  • Must have a smartphone with internet and camera to access our apps, along with the data needed to function.
  • Must be very comfortable around dogs of all breeds and sizes.
  • Be physically capable of walking on various surfaces while handling dogs, have the stamina to go on multiple walks per day, and be able to walk in all sorts of weather.
  • Be able to follow detailed instructions so that we can provide the very best pet care.
  • Must successfully complete training and be able to work independently.
  • Be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Dog Walker

Individuals who have professional experience working with dogs, volunteer experience working with dogs, or extensive personal dog handling experience are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be very comfortable around dogs of all sizes. If you are looking for experience working with dogs, please volunteer at your local shelter.

This position is for a part time Dog Walker, 3-4 days per week (Monday- Friday). Your day will start between 8-11 am (based on your availability and our needs) and you’ll be wrapping up between 2:00-4:00 each day. You’ll be going on around 3-6 walks/ hikes of varying length during these hours. You’ll get to know the dogs you walk and build relationships with them.

If you love the job and are a great fit, this position can potentially evolve to 5 days per week. If you are only looking to work a few days, that is OK too!

NO PACK WALKS! We walk mostly 1 dog at a time, and occasionally 2 dogs from the same household (if it is safe to do so). We care deeply about the safety of our team and the animals we care for. We provide training on safe dog walking skills, canine body language, and safe harness use and leash handling. All of our employees get certified in First Aid and CPR for Dogs as well!

Pet Sitter

Candidates who have professional experience working with pets, volunteer experience working with pets, or extensive personal pet care experience are encouraged to apply. If you are looking for experience working with pets, we encourage you to volunteer at your local shelter. Pet Sitters must be comfortable and capable of working with dogs of all sizes and breeds, cats of all temperaments, small animals, and birds. Experience administering medications to pets is required. Applicants must be comfortable traveling to clients’ homes to care for animals- people are usually at work or out of town when we come. We do not bring pets to our own homes. All care is provided in the client’s home. Pet Sitters must competently provide care, including changing water, cleaning litter boxes, giving treats, cleaning messes, feeding meals, bringing in packages, cuddles, playtime, etc. Day, evening, and weekend shifts are available, based on availability.
